#satipoftheday - Physical Security - January 18, 2022

Pete W.

Good afternoon, everybody! It's time for your #SAtipoftheday: Conduct your own #physicalsecurity vulnerability assessments.

There are two areas in which this can apply: 1. Your daily movements, and 2. Special movements.

Daily movements:

Your daily movement could include your daily routines from the time you leave your home/hotel to the time you arrive back at the end of the day. You can even break that down into manageable "chunks" like commutes, periods of work, etc. Determine if there are actual routines, and whether they present dangers/risks, and whether or not those risks can be mitigated and/or removed. A benefit of daily movements is that you are generally on your "home turf", and are more familiar with your surroundings throughout your day.

Special Movements:

Special movements could include situations such as vacation trips, business trips, and any other type of abnormal event you find yourself needing to attend. These should also be broken down for ease of risk management. One of the drawbacks is that you will most likely encounter is unfamiliarity. This is, in and of itself, an inherent risk that you must deal with in some way. This particular area of thought is covered in detail in Arcuri Group's SAS® course.
